Road Trip

Over the weekend, we had two days of warm, gorgeous weather IN.A.ROW, so I’m starting to buy into the belief that winter may actually come to an end. Also, Channel 2 says to expect severe storms tonight, so BONUS! proof that There Will Be a Spring Season This Year.

In celebration, I’m thinking I might put on a bikini and sunbathe on the trampoline, or plant some pretty flowers, or, oh I don’t know, stop taking those mega-doses of Vitamin D.

Crazy talk, I know.

Yesterday, Jenna had a soccer game two hours out of town, which I had been dreading and complaining about preparing for all week. Rob wouldn’t be coming with us of course, he of night-shift-work and day-sleep. Jake as well opted-out of the road trip, on the grounds that he needed more quality time with the love of his life. HIS X-BOX. Ahem.

My mother, on the other hand, showed some genuine interest in going. I suspect mainly because the destination city was where she was born and had lived for some of her Formative Years and she never misses an opportunity to show off her Old Stomping Grounds (and to eat at the Dixie Dog). So I invited her to come along, even agreeing to allow her to drive us in her car. AND to pay for the gas to get there. And back. Because that shit’s expensive at now $3.19 (and nine-tenths) a gallon and have I mentioned that ROB AND I HAZ FOUR MOUTHS TO FEED?

Moving on.

Jenna as usual performed OUT-STAN-DING-ly during the game in her position as goalkeeper, but despite her magnificence the team lost 4-1.

I would like to add for the record that I am not at all bitter, even though I traveled approximately one-hundred-and-twelve (effing) miles to watch that (pathetic) game, and also that I pay $70 a month for her to play on that (losing) team, because I know that IT WAS ALL THE DEFENSE’S FAULT for not, you know, defending better. And also THE OFFENSE’S FAULT for not SCORING MORE GOALS. But Jenna rocked and that’s what counts.*

The highlight of the day was definitely the trip home, during which Jenna used her superpowers of On-Command-Crying and Subtle-Guilt-Trip-Placement to coerce me into a side-trip forty-five minutes out of the way so she could eat dinner with her teammates (the aforementioned DEFENSE and OFFENSE) in Stillwater. At Joe’s of course.

Eskimo Joe’s to you tourists.

My little inside joke was that I didn’t mind the detour, since Stillwater is the home of my quasi-alma mater Oklahoma State University (Go Pokes!) and eventually everything gets back to being all about me.

Anyway, we ate some burgers, sashayed around Stillwater a bit, and made the rest of the trek home.

We slid into Tulsa about two hours behind schedule and were only almost instantly killed by the asshole in the white Ford F-150 doing 90 who made a sharp last-millisecond manuever around us.

Thanks very much, buddy.

All in all, exactly what I call a Perfect Spring Day.

* These are, of course just my own personal observations and I could be wrong. Except about the Jenna part since she.DID.seriously.rock. Even several parents-who-were-not-hers said so.

Hey Jenny! Just popped over and thought I’d check you out. That sounds somewhat weird! I love that you post almost as much as I do although I think I may have you beat by about three or four. Just read over your whole front page here and I like your writing style. The weather here seems similar although as I write this sure as the world I’ll have to close my damn windows because it was in the 70′s today and break out the winter coats for Thursday or so! The Student Council story had me cracking up, wasn’t childhood grand! I like you. I’ll be back!!
